Dialux Green Polishing Compound (Chromium Oxide-Based)

The classic variation of polishing compound based on chromium oxide, produced under the DIALUX brand, is manufactured by Lippert Unipol (France) and OSBORN (Germany). These companies are industry leaders in adhesive polishing compounds made from various metal oxides.

While these compounds are primarily designed for use in the jewelry industry and are ideal for working with non-ferrous and precious metals, Dialux Green is considered a universal compound. It performs excellently on copper alloys and precious metals, and also works surprisingly well on standard and even very hard steels.

Despite its visual resemblance to GOI paste, the two are quite different. While both are based on chromium oxide, Dialux Green is a modern formula with numerous innovative improvements that significantly increase its efficiency. Made with animal-fat-based binders, the compound is relatively hard at room temperature but applies easily to both mechanical polishing wheels and flat hand strops such as leather or wood.

Abrasive properties: Dialux Green is considered a medium-abrasive compound. While not the finest in the Dialux range, it can still produce a mirror-like finish on surfaces like stainless steel. Any microscopic irregularities left after polishing are invisible to the naked eye, though even finer results may be achieved with other compounds such as Dialux Blue—though the difference is visible only under magnification.

In terms of abrasiveness, Dialux Green is comparable to Dialux White, delivering a glossy finish while effectively removing visible surface defects like scratches and pits.

Polishing mechanism: The compound works via adhesive polishing, where particles bind to surface oxidation and remove it through mechanical action. This gentle polishing mechanism enables the compound to effectively polish materials significantly harder than the paste itself.

Dialux Green is ideal for intermediate (coarse) polishing of:

  • Silver

  • Yellow and white gold

  • Platinum

  • Chrome
It is also well-suited for general-purpose metal polishing.

When you buy Dialux compounds from our company, you receive a genuine product, manufactured by Lippert Unipol (France) or OSBORN (Germany), as confirmed by the official logos printed on the bottom of the packaging.

Dialux Blue Polishing Compound – Universal Super-Finish for All Metals

Dialux Blue is a high-performance, universal polishing compound designed for super-finish polishing of all metals, especially white alloys.

This compound features a higher abrasive capacity combined with gentle polishing performance. Thanks to its ultra-fine grain, it delivers a flawless, brilliant finish—perfect for high-precision polishing tasks.

Dialux Blue is ideally suited for final finishing of almost any material, but it works particularly well on white metals and alloys. It applies to the surface in a very thin layer, allowing for refined polishing with minimal residue.

For best results, apply the paste using felt wheels, brushes, or buffing pads.

Specifications:

  • Material compatibility: Universal, especially suited for white alloys

  • Compound base: Synthetic formulation

  • Block size and weight: 100 x 30 x 30 mm, 110 g

  • Application: Final / super-finish polishing

Dialux White Polishing Compound (Dialux Blanc)

Dialux White is a general-purpose finishing compound designed for fine polishing. It is a solid compound that features an animal-fat-based binder, which allows it to easily apply to polishing wheels and melt with minimal heat. At room temperature, it can be effortlessly rubbed into leather strops or balsa wood blanks without pressure.

Although the application is nearly invisible to the eye, the compound's particles remain in the leather's pores and become active during stropping. As polishing begins, dark metallic spots appear on the leather, indicating the removal of metal particles. Residue can be mechanically removed, for example with the spine of a knife. Avoid solvents, as they may damage the leather.

Even though Dialux White contains aluminum oxide as its abrasive element, metal removal is primarily achieved through chemical interaction with the metal oxides on the surface, thanks to the surface-active agents in the formula.

A notable feature of Dialux White is its lack of color, which makes it easy to remove from workpieces after polishing—especially important when polishing wooden components like knife handles.

In terms of abrasive and polishing capabilities, Dialux White sits between Dialux Blue (finer) and Dialux Grey (coarser).

Usage Tips:

For final knife stropping, apply a small amount of paste to a leather or balsa strop and polish along the grain.

Dialux compounds are highly economical—a single bar lasts a long time even with regular use.

Universal DIALUX Black Polishing Compound for Mirror Finish

The DIALUX black compound is a universal polishing paste designed to achieve a mirror-like shine. It can be used with all types of metals. Apply using a felt or cotton buffing wheel.

DIALUX Black is specially formulated for jewelers and is indispensable in jewelry making. It provides an excellent shine, especially on silver items. The compound has a wide range of applications and is applied in a thin layer.

Its primary purpose is super-finishing.

DIALUX Red Polishing Compound (DIALUX ROUGE)

Purpose:

  • A general-purpose compound designed for final and super-finishing polishing.

  • Ideal for use on non-ferrous metals such as silver, yellow gold, bronze, brass, and other precious metals.

  • Based on user experience, it also performs well on carbon steels.

Applications:

  • Used for finishing bolsters, guards, pommels, as well as inlay elements on handles and blades.

  • Suitable for use with felt, cotton, bristle wheels, and various hand-held polishing tools.

Composition:

  • A blend of aluminum oxides and iron oxides provides a combined mechanical (abrasive) and chemical action on metal oxide surfaces, enhancing the polishing effect.

  • The iron oxides give the compound its characteristic red color.

  • Contains additional abrasive additives, surfactants, and a natural grease-based binder to ensure the necessary abrasive power and strong adhesion to polishing tools.

Features:

  • Low abrasiveness.

  • High polishing performance.

  • Excellent for final finishing of soft and precious metals.

Dialux Polishing Compound – An Effective Way to Polish a Knife Blade to a Mirror Finish

One of the most advanced polishing compound options on the market is the DIALUX brand from France.

Each compound comes in a different color, which matches both the packaging and the compound block itself, and indicates its level of abrasiveness — from the coarsest (Dialux Gris, grey) to the finest (Dialux Blanc, white).

The grey compound is designed for polishing stainless steel. It is primarily made of diatomite, which gives it a high level of abrasiveness, making it ideal for removing imperfections formed during earlier stages of metalworking.

If you're aiming to polish your knife blade to a mirror-like shine, Dialux polishing compounds are a great choice. Apply the compound to the leather surface of a honing strop, and carefully polish the blade. You'll achieve results you've never seen before — your knife could be sharp enough to slice a tomato under the weight of the blade alone.

During the polishing process, surface imperfections are smoothed out, leaving the metal extremely smooth and glossy.

We offer the full range of Dialux compounds, each available in a distinct color. Out of all options, we recommend two in particular:

  • Dialux Gris (grey) – for aggressive polishing of stainless steel;

  • Dialux Blanc (white) – for the final ultra-fine finish.
