Knife tool set (to order)

A set of tools for sole making (three items).
A wonderful combination of ancient ideas and the latest technologies. Detailing and finishing is done by hand - mirror surface.
All these tools are made of the well-known German tool steel Böhler N690 , hardness - 60HRC.
The handles are made of beech, comfortably shaped, coated with Danish oil and then carnauba wax and polished. All types of handles are manufactured on a CNC machine, which guarantees exact shape and repeatability.

Comes in a regular cardboard box for postal shipments with a special foam insert, as in the photo.

Detailed description of tools

• Feather knife: A "push knife" mounted in a wooden handle. The tip is a bevel-sharpened blade, bordered by a fence ("safe edge") set a right angles to it, which acts as a guide.
  The purpose of the tool is to cut "feathers" round the edge of the insole. These are grooves made during the "making" process when the upper and welt are being stitched to the insole.
  Vertical cuts are first made with an ordinary knife round the edge of the insole; one at about 1/8in(4mm) from the edge, and another at about 3/8in(1cm) from the edge. This distance is dependent on the size and type of shoe.
  The edge or the upper will eventually lie in the outside feather; and stitches will by sunk along the inside feather. After the Feathering Knife has cut away the unwanted leather fron both inside and outside feathers, the space betwheen, known as the "holdfast", is left standing.
• Welt knife: Very useful when preparing the insole and finishing the sole edges – essential tool.
  This is commonest type of knife used for trimming the welt. The curved shank has a cutting edge ground across the end, leaving a "finger guide" at the side. When pushed along the welt, the "finger" is kept in contact with the upper and so acts as both guide and fence.
• Channel opener: Used to carefully open and shape channels when creating a holdfast or cutting stitching channels. This is not a knife. This tool is used after the knife.
